Soft Switching Power Supply
From Theory to Practice
A standard switching mode power supply generates ripple noise, conducted emission noise, radiated emission noise and common mode noise due to the way it switches the power.
Raising and lowering edge of the current wave form, generates noise at the zero-cross point (ringing noise) & negatively affects efficiency. We call it “Hard Switching”.
Soft Switching
Soft Switching has been known for many years as a good experimental method to reduce the noise in switching power supplies.
Daitron Japan is the only company in the world which has been able to implement the theory and commercialize it. Niev Pacific Connection is the exclusive distributor of Daitron in Israel.

In soft switching, the current has sine wave form, unlike the hard-switching trapezoid wave form, thereby reducing noise.
The Minimum current & voltage cross the 0 level at the same time unlike “hard switching” where the 0 crossing of the current and the voltage happens at different times.
The simultaneous 0 crossing reduces noise and increases the efficiency.
